Corporate Development is critical to the success of Unum.  Strategic collaborations play a key role in Unum’s business model, as we are continuously looking to access additional antibodies to combine with our ACTR technology and expand our pipeline, as well as complementary technologies to continue to advance our ACTR platform. 

Reporting to the CFO and Head of Corporate Development, the Associate Director / Director of Corporate Development will play a critical role in driving Unum’s strategic initiatives, the assessment of new business opportunities, and the identification, evaluation and execution of strategic collaborations. As Unum grows and the volume and scope of these activities increase, this individual would be able to pursue a more focused business development or corporate strategy path, based on professional interest/objectives and individual strengths.

What are we seeking?

  • 5-10 years of experience in business development or licensing with a track record of sourcing partnership opportunities

  • Scientific degree required

  • Advanced degree required: MBA, PhD (preferably in cancer biology, cell therapy, or other relevant fields) or MD

  • Strategy consulting experience is a plus

  • Strong understanding of drug discovery and development, preferably in oncology and/or cell therapy

  • A combination of a solid background/education in business and science with an aptitude to quickly understand new science and technologies

  • Strong strategic and analytical problem solving skills and experience in assessing opportunities for strategic fit with corporate objectives

  • Ability to work in a team and help lead a culture of collaboration and teamwork; ability to forge relationships internally and externally

  • Strong analytical/financial modeling skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and leadership skills

  • Proficiency in preparing presentation materials and ability to tell a coherent story and connect with internal and external stakeholders in a persuasive manner

  • Proven ability to manage teams and multiple projects effectively with a high degree of independence

What will you be doing?


​Corporate Strategy Activities:

  • Lead/manage special initiatives and assessment of activities to support our corporate objectives

    • Portfolio assessment

    • Therapeutic indication and program business assessments

    • Competitive landscape analysis and monitoring

    • Other strategic initiatives

Business Development Activities:

  • Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional stakeholders to help develop Unum’s partnering strategy

  • Closely collaborate with the R&D team to define technical characteristics of assets of interest

  • Identify relevant assets / technologies that are consistent with Unum’s scientific and business objectives

  • Maintain project tracking database and monitor key events for programs of interest

  • Organize and lead cross-functional due diligence process and teams (scientific, clinical, market/commercial, etc.) in evaluating the scientific merit and strategic fit of partnering opportunities

  • Integrate cross-functional input and prepare in-depth landscape and opportunity assessments (with cross-functional input) and recommendations

  • Develop presentations on strategic opportunities for internal and board discussions

  • Be the day-to-day point person for partners and advisors

  • Prepare financial/valuation analysis to support deal negotiations

  • Prepare, review and negotiate CDAs and MTAs

  • Assist in the development of deal structures and term sheets (with the objective to increasingly assume a leading role in developing proposals)

  • Manage the contract drafting/review process and coordinate cross-functional input and with legal

  • Participate/assist in negotiations (with the objective to increasingly assume a leading role, starting with early stage/academic collaborations)   

  • Attend major scientific and medical conferences to help prospect for new opportunities and build relationships with potential partners

  • Oversee/help manage the business aspects of our established strategic alliances
